IS IT SAFE TO TRAVEL TO UKRAINE?

Ukraine is quite a safe place to travel to. Many people who used Poltava Travel services will agree with my point of view. Nevertheless, it is still recommended that you know where you walk.

Even though Poltava is safe, you still should take some precautions. Here are a few things that I would recommend you to do to keep yourself from trouble:

Don't go into back streets of the city. Instead, try to stay in the city center, which is quite big and has got lots of things to offer to a traveler, such as bars and restaurants, museums and parks and many sights to see.

Don't speak your language too loudly. Poltava is not a major travel destination. Therefore, people pay much attention to you when they hear you speaking a different language. Our people are very welcoming to foreign visitors. It is just that you still want to keep a low profile and try not to attract attention of those willing to take an advantage of you in one way or another.

Don't carry all of your money with you when you are out in the street. Take just enough to cover your needs and leave the rest either in your hotel room or in an apartment that you are renting.

When in public transport, make sure that you watch your pockets. I heard about some cases of pocket picking. More than that, my girl friend was unfortunate to have her cell phone stolen while taking a bus ride.

When in a bar, don't drink with people whom you don't know. Make sure you control situation and know what you are doing.

Try to stay away from our police. It is not like them are bad, but there are some that might want to get hold of your money.

Finally, a good safety measure when you are in a Ukrainian city: ask somebody who speaks Russian or Ukraine to write you on a piece of paper the address of your hotel/apartment. That way, if you are lost in the streets, you can always catch a cab and use that piece of writing to let a taxi driver know where to take you.
